Trap eyes with the “traps”

THE TRAPEZIUS MUSCLES (“TRAPS”) are the large diamond-shaped muscles that run between the back of the shoulders and reach up to the neck. They are two of the largest and most important muscles in the upper body.

According to fitness experts at Men’s Fitness, developing these muscles requires you to do plenty of pull-ups and cable rows, and raise your shoulder girdle up in shrugs. Performing front and rear barbell lifts will greatly increase the appearance of the shoulders too, thus balancing them with your traps. Side lats and front lats also help in the process, provided that you use the appropriate weight of dumbbells. However, the best exercise to achieve your goal is the lateral pull down (both rear and front), where you lift weights by holding a horizontally positioned steel handle that is connected with heavy plates. Confused? Consult your fitness instructor.

The sleeve-splitting arms

IF YOU’RE A WORK-OUT aficionado who just can’t impede doing barbell and dumb bell curls, pull-ups, and dips, then you might own the sleeve-splitting set of biceps and triceps.

Barbell curl is an exercise done by lifting a barbell of the appropriate weight from a standing position. Gripping it on both sides, putting your arms in a “curled position”, and retrieving it back repeatedly will complete the barbell curl exercise. The difference of this exercise from the dumbbell curl is that the latter uses an individual dumbbell (the smaller ones) for each arm, which may be performed alternately.

What is a “power statement”?

A “POWER STATEMENT” IS A statement that communicates important information about you in a short amount of time. It emphasizes the value you can bring to an organization, which will cause you to leave a powerful impression. (SOURCE: A hand-out from a seminar awhile ago.)

Mostly, this kind of statement is used when you are applying for a job, or any sort of interview for an award or so. It can be stated by saying your skills, strength and accomplishments, which you want to highlight in relation to your objectives. Then you’ll be giving specific examples of that skill. State the results of that skill, and then make sure that the statement matches the needs or goals of the organization.

How to make Heart’s month happy

TODAY LAUNCHES THE MONTH of February. Thirteen days to go, it would be Valentine’s Day. Isn’t it anxiety-causing to think that most “normal people” (in my term, I call them “common”) would need a date during that day? Or how about the flower-giving? If you’re a woman, isn’t it dulcet to hear a delivery boy on your door telling, “Flower delivery for Ms so and so…”? If you’re a man, isn’t it laudatory if you’ll have a flower delivery too, which has been paid by a gay admirer or stalker or whatever?

Well, I suppose these things are dulcet and very flattering!

However, you should remember that you must be “attractive”. In the Philippine scenario, being attractive is being white. Conversely, getting whiter is oftentimes synonymous with costly. But this does not apply in all whitening products.

Gee, I recall that in Mai Salon – a salon nearby AUF – a papaya soap would cost Php90.00. And that’s just a soap. A classmate of mine vends it for about Php50.00 lower.

But if you’ll purchase it to me, it’s only Php38.00! Presenting…

The Beache Beauty Bar! This is a facial and body soap. It whitens the skin to a luminous complexion. It obliterates pimples and blemishes too.

My main point in feature writing

THE MOST PRECISE GUIDELINE in feature writing is that “it is to write in one’s own style.” After all, a “good article” is just a matter of perception (provided that there are no grammar errors).

How to produce a stylish bulletin board?

TWO DAYS AGO, I spearheaded the team who adorned the bulletin board of the Pioneer. That time, I thought of how to create a stylish bulletin board even if I am not that inclined with painting? Well, the way is very simple…

Contact the best artists in the organization. (In my case, I had Gian Paras and Justin Mandal – both of them are correspondents of The Pioneer.) Then if they ask you what the theme of the board is all about, simply say:

Nine more ways to transform to an “Astonishing Mutant” (A Sequel)

STILL, THE PHOTOGRAPHS YOU see above diverge in a one-year time frame – 2007 and 2008 – taken with different circumstances but with similar sentiments that the model (who is actually the same person) was trying to portray during the “posing period”. (The first one was last 2007 while the second was 2008. Please see The 13 Ways to become an "Astonishing Mutant" in here to better understand what I'm trying to converse about.)

I, being the model in the photos, just found another way to become optimistic about life since the “fates” are being benevolent to me – though I suffer some consequences, I still benefit on several aspects of life!

Now, I want to share more secrets of how to divert the stress you have in your life. Here are some more superficial ways....

The 13 ways to transform to an “Astonishing Mutant”

THE PHOTOGRAPHS YOU SEE above diverge in a one-year time frame – 2007 and 2008 – taken with different circumstances but with similar sentiments that the model (who is actually the same person) was trying to portray during the “posing period”. But candidly speaking, one of them is truthfully happy while the other one is forlorn. Which is which? Well, let me explicate….

The first photo was taken last year when I was still the Features Editor of The Pioneer. Meanwhile, the second photo was taken recently this year, wherein I’m already the Managing Editor and Administrative & Finance Officer of The Pioneer. Last year, I used to write for the publication and finish the articles that I’m assigned to write, as well as cover the events I’m supposed to write about. This year, I handle the financial matters in the publication – the budgets for printing, preparation, hotel reservation for seminars, etc. -- and I face the school admin regarding some issues of the paper. (The latter is dreadfully stressful.)

Bluntly speaking, I WAS HAPPIER THEN.

Therefore, I conclude that “happiness could make someone chubby” while “stress could improve your looks if taken optimistically and ardently.”

Just don’t forget these aide memoires that will make your stressful life astonishing:
