The tiger’s cage and a treasure box

I
WHEN I GO OUT, the blue cage is bare. Girbaud must have bolted out of it. And maybe he is now running in the backyard, creeping across the lawn, or pouncing with some other cats somewhere in our house? Of course, he isn’t. It can’t be like that today anymore. It can never be. This is the day we buried his remains.

I gait toward the cage to make some final cleaning. This was Girbaud’s cage. Was, because after all that’s one thing death can change permanently: the shifting of verb tenses from present to past. I pass by our terrace, and just nearby the terrace door sits, motionlessly, the litter box Girbaud had used whenever he had to excrete his solid and liquid wastes alike. The gray mixture of gravel and sand, which Girbaud couldn’t do without whenever he needed to answer to nature’s call. He’d been trained really well in doing this. There were times he would cry aloud just so I would give back this translucent, plastic box inside his cage for him to pee. Or poop.   In the hallway―which serves as my mother’s miniscule garden where she grows her gumbo and eggplants and birds of paradise and orchids and other species of plants unknown to me―assemble in parallel the yellow and blue feeding bowls I bought for Girbaud when he was still young. This pair was maybe his fourth or fifth, because the ones we initially handed him were real human bowls. Which were too big for his taste. And for the size of his cage. The blue bowl is empty, dry as bone; the yellow one is half-filled with water. This might have been the last water he drank before he had succumbed to death. If he ever had the chance to drink.

ATSPAR (III) contenders must hear a ****

“There are two major types of contenders joining a writing contest: those who expect and those who don’t… But what should both realize after the contest?” (My response to ColdExpress’s “ Meet the Natives”)

ATSPAR III preludes ALTPA in a regional level. The latter is in Luzonwide level and is being held in February of the subsequent year, few months after its regional counterpart during November. For the benefit of those who live outside this archipelago, these two are writing contests held annually for campus journalists. The words “tertiary schools press conference” can be extracted from these acronyms, which technically means they’re intended only for college students. Meanwhile, ATSPAR III has celebrated its tenth anniversary this November.

THAT NOVEMBER 2008 DAY I’ll never forget. The azure November sky was crystal clear, the atmosphere was unruffled, and the temperature was tepidly blended. Although being consternated about the results and feeling nauseous, I was still certain that I will hear my name and see myself once again, going in front of the faceless crowd of campus journalists, receiving my opulent medal of either bronze or silver, and being applauded by all and sundry. Afterward, I thought I’ll be seeing my banner flogging in front of our university’s main building. And so I expected that from Edwin de Leon too. These were then my expectations…

When the meaning of “home” deforms in slow-mo

I despised to spend my holiday at home; instead, I had it in the city…”

City of struggle, Makati City. The tallest building at the center, the PBCom Tower, where our main office is located.

…AND YES, I AM a qualified fugitive who fittingly said goodbye before leaving the house. So who cares?

Impetuously, I dashed to stash my stuffs inside my bag last Sunday to go back to Makati City. I know there were no offices on the following day because August 30 is a holiday. However, my untimely decision to depart from our house was unfaltering. My mother was asking me why I am leaving earlier than expected. I answered, “I just changed my mind!” Then I ended with a firm judgment left furtively hanging on a faceless identikit like that in novels…

Dette, my sister, and my mother always quarrel against each other at home. My mother has made it a tradition to pickle my sister’s faults just like daily desserts served after each meal to add a little sweetness that ends with a spice—my mother, informatively speaking, has a ranting voice. When she speaks, eardrums crack. Then, when my sister gets enough of it, she retorts—and yes, her voice quality “inherited” that of my mother. Both of them weren’t as worse as what they are right now. They are just slowly getting to the point of a “worst case scenario.”

Onion salads with a pinch of Disney lesson

OUR CAMARADERIE WAS LIKE the closeness between a Spiritual Warrior and a transformed Media Puppet—it happened like the peeling of an onion.

Last June 6, my spiritual birthday, I found out that Robert already had his Facebook.com account, which I presume he had created this May. (I actually thought he'll never create a Facebook account because he said such an account would aid in the programming of every person's RFid in the future.) So I invited him using my Facebook account, which is linked to my official blog (this blog).

The next day, I read a message in my phone from Robert Rivera. He was asking me to delete my June 1 blog entry about him and Michelin in relation to the Pioneer because he doesn't want to appear as a presumptuous person. I’m not supposed to delete the entry since Mitz was touched with the article; however, I still concurred with Bert.

My million debts

I OWE YOU A lot; I know.

(I can't explain entirely why I have been out of the circulation for so long. It feels like I've died for a thousand years.)

To my readers, I apologize. I attempted to write as often as I can; however, I failed. From the moment I go home, I fall asleep without finishing my dinner. Then, when I wake up, my eyes are dozing and my head aches. I've been exhausted all day and night with my job at the telecommunication company.

Vomiting: My peculiar sentiment was like my sickness yesterday…

IT WAS LIKE A FIERY million-degrees Celsius body temperature mixed with uneasy feelings all over my body – I thought I would die….

“I am not capable of loving,” I always say, especially when the topic falls under romantic love. I suppose not everyone in this world needs someone to share his sentiments with. Not everyone likes to see a text message in his cell phone asking, “Kumain ka na?” or “What ginagawa mo?” and the like…

As well, I never believed that I should give too much concern for others. I love the word “I” more than “you” and “us”. I love to cosset my self – purchase my needs, follow my desires, and do what I have to in order to live. The best person to love is, of course, my self. I seldom get emotionally attached with people.
